Incentive Program Package #3: Seven Summits and Beyond

As my incentive programs have developed over the past 20 years, they’ve expanded and become more graphics-heavy. Each year’s theme now includes a large wall display that tracks individual student progress towards meeting their (minimum) 10 annual MusiQuest Goals. So this third incentive program I’m going to share with you comes with more printables!

“Seven Summits And Beyond” is a mountain-climbing theme that celebrates the indomitable spirit of the world’s greatest mountaineers. Living where I do in the Pacific Northwest, the familiar sight of Mount Rainier dominating the skyline is always breathtaking. Since it’s a training summit for prospective Everest climbers, it was the first “destination” for my students. The theme continues through the highest summits on each continent (the “7 Summits”) leading to Mt. Everest as #10. Students who completed more than 10 goals went on to “climb the 8000’ers” — the Himalayan peaks over 8000 meters high.

Pictured above is the front side of the Progress Tracker sheet that went into each student’s notebook. I purchased mini hiking stickers on Etsy (search “mini hiking stickers” if these are no longer available). Students put a sticker on each mountain numbered from 1-10 (and beyond) as they completed their Goals.

Studio decor consisted of a 22″ by 28″ (poster-board size) 7 Summits graphic with outlines of all 21 named mountain peaks. Baker’s twine was strung from peak to peak to imitate a climber’s rope. Students were identified by their initials hanging from a colorful carabiner clip. The clips were hung on pins stuck into each peak, to mark how many goals they had completed. Individual 8×10 photos of each of the peaks ranged around the walls of my studio.

Each student who completed at least 10 Goals by the end of the year earned a custom trophy from Crown Awards. I chose their 6″ Paragon Clear Icicle Trophy with a Silver Music Notes insert and custom engraving.

Click here to purchase the printable themed Progress Tracker sheet (8.5″x11″, printable in color on paper or card stock). To fully decorate your studio, you can also download the 8×10 labeled full-color mountain photos, and the component pages with instructions to create the wall graphic on posterboard backing.
Here is the FREE downloadable/editable/printable list of MusiQUEST Goals that can be printed on the back of the Progress Tracker. Also free, the Practice Sticker Card.
